Ron Klotchman is an “intuitive” painter in every sense of the word. What appears on his canvas is rarely planned in advance. While the internal machinations of his inspiration remain elusive, he does admit his intention to develop works that are a commentary on the human experience. Since childhood, Ron has been drawn to psychology, human behavior and relationships. He regularly devours biographies of other artists, actors and musicians, particularly those who are or were tortured souls. This fascination leaves a clear and recurring imprint upon each of his creations. Love, loss, joy, anger, passion, despair, hope, and rapture… through his brush, Ron gives visual form to the formless emotions that define us. Ron’s paintings contain beautiful, vibrant colors. He works quickly, usually with acrylic medium. He adds many layers to his paintings, often using a palette knife in conjunction with, or as a substitute for, a brush. He also uses sandpaper, and various scraping techniques. His self-proclaimed process: “build up, tear into, build up, deconstruct, build up… then finish.” He is, admittedly, “messy and disorganized.” He can often be found squeezing paint from a tube directly onto his canvas. He describes his work as “frenetic, kinetic, improvisational, exhausting and emotional.” For Ron, there are no aprons, small brushes, neatly organized palette trays or clears. His work is “down and dirty,” and in the true spirit of an abstract expressionist painter, he revels in the freedom and the spontaneity of his process. In the words of the artist: “I wouldn’t want to create art any other way!”
